Halfway through the #mscidel Twitter week!

Whatever inhibitions I had about using Twitter have gone out the window this week as I have immersed myself in discussions (if they can be called that!) with my #mscidel peers giving no consideration whatsoever to my (small number of followers) who may only wonder what is going on with my account this week, and perhaps some may take a look at the hashtag before rapidly retreating!

Up to now most of my learning outputs from IDEL have been in my student blog with the occasional brief venture into the discussion forums to demonstrate my engagement if I’m brutally honest, or should I say open! With Twitter though, up to recently a post could only contain 140 characters – thanks Andy!

I haven’t counted how many characters a post is now but I keep having to cut it back and still make sense of it, not easy when you’re trying to make a point that will both make sense and attract responses. Two days of questions in and I’m not doing too badly according to TAGSExplorer:

See – I don’t even have to highlight my name – that must say something, but what exactly? Well, it says that I’m currently in the Top Tweeters, number 3 to be specific:

My (study) buddies Anshul and Tricia have tons more twitter experience than I do and took the lead overnight – ah well, have to start somewhere!

I’d love to find out how ‘Top Conversationalist’ is computed but don’t plan to spend any time trying to figure it out. For now, happy being in the top 5:

This attempt at visualisation responds to the first of three questions posed this week:

  • What does your visualisation ‘say’ about IDEL activity, community and learning?

To me, it says that I’ve been engaged in a few days of intensive tweeting (activity) and it could all come undone in a few hours when I’m busy catching up with my reading for the week! Delving a little deeper this activity has clearly demonstrated to me the importance of engagement with my peers and the course tutors (community), figuring out what thread my contribution might provide some value to without the luxury of an in-depth discussion post (learning).

Must dash, time to see what’s going on with today’s Twitter question!
